Captain Armando Salazar is the main antagonist in the film *Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales* (2017).
He was a Spanish naval officer and notorious pirate hunter, known as "El Matador del Mar" (The Butcher of the Sea). He dedicated his life to eradicating piracy.
Salazar's hatred for pirates was fueled by a personal vendetta, stemming from a battle in which a young Jack Sparrow tricked him into sailing his ship, the *Silent Mary*, into the Devil's Triangle. The ship was destroyed, and Salazar and his crew were cursed to become ghostly beings trapped within the Triangle.
He seeks revenge on Jack Sparrow after Sparrow inadvertently releases him from the Devil's Triangle.
